Barn fire at Straight Flush Pheasant Farm - VIDEO
The St. Anna Fire Department responded Tuesday, May 19 about noon to a barn fire at the Straight Flush Pheasant Farm in the Town of New Holstein on CTH J just south of Foundry Road. The department requested and received assistance from the New Holstein and Kiel fire departments. Serving as backups were the Town of Calumet and Elkhart Lake/Town of Rhine fire departments. Firefighters were able to contain and knock down the fire preventing the structure from becoming engulfed in flames. According to St. Anna Fire Chief Bob Thome whose department was in charge at the scene, the fire started when flames and sparks from a pile of burning branches fairly near the barn ignited a another pile of logs which lay adjacent to the barn and from there wind carried sparks onto the roof of the barn igniting a few different spots on the roof. Water tanker trucks ferried water to the scene with which firefighters aptly doused the burning piles, the barn roof and its stored contents. The Morrissey Park community playground build in Chilton was completed on schedule Sunday and was concluded with a dedication ceremony that consisted of tributes to the approximate 1,200 volunteers who embraced the five-day project with vim and vigor. The dedication, delayed for a time because of a downpour, included a song sung by a group of children telling about the project, a balloon release, a final outdoor supper and cake cutting.
