Candlelight vigil planned for Sun. evening
To honor Sgt Amy Krueger and keep her memory alive, her friends and family are organizing a candlelight vigil to take place on Sunday, November 8th at 7:00pm located at Veteran's Park in the City of Kiel. Veteran's Park is located on the southeast corner of the First Street Bridge where E. Water and First Streets meet.

As the nation anguishes over the pain of the Ft. Hood killings, Thursday, Kiel has learned that a woman from this community is among the victims. Amy Krueger, a Kiel High School graduate and member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, is among the 13 people who died in the shooting that broke out at the Texas Army complex yesterday.

Amy is the daughter of Jerilyn Krueger of Kiel and Mark Krueger.

Krueger was reportedly at Ft. Hood to deploy to another mission in Afghanistan as part of the Madison-based 467th Medical Detachment. Her trained area of specialty was in the field of mental health.

Krueger's mother was contacted by Army officials notifying her of her daughter's tragic death in the early morning hours Friday.
Krueger is remembered in her community as a patriot, who joined the military the first time after the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
After watching the impact of those attacks, Krueger and her friend, Kristin Thayer, decided to enlist in the Army.
She was called to serve in Afghanistan in 2003, then a member of the Army Reserve Unit in Menasha, WI, a detachment of the 452nd Combat Support Hospital out of Milwaukee.
She was deployed to serve in a 24-bed hospital at that time, treating mostly American soliders with combat stress, and teaching anger and stress management classes.
In a 2003 Tri-County News feature, both Amy and her mother, Jerilyn Krueger talked about the inherent dangers of military service.
At that time, her mother commented, that Amy's decision to go into the service, "...didn't surprise me. She has always been a strong-headed, strong-willed perosn. She made the statement of intending to join the Army, went for everything and didn't procrastinate."
In 2003, Amy Krueger told the Tri-County News, "Joining the Army helped to make us realize we value our country. We didn't know we cared so much."

Materials for this story compiled from a Sept. 4, 2003 interview with Amy and Jerilyn Krueger, featured in the Tri-County News.

I had the privilege as the Commander of a Combat Stress Unit in Afghanistan when I met SSGT Amy Krueger. She worked with us for a short time as her unit was to replace my unit.
I was immediately impressed by Amy. Her attitude, committment, and sense of humor earned the respect of all who knew her. I would like her parents to know that I am having a commenorate brick honoring her name. I live in Prescott, AZ, and want her sacrifices remembered. May God bless all of her family members and friends.
