Coast Guard honors Veterans with Kiel flyover
Members of the US Coast Guard unit from Traverse City, MI, honored all veterans of service Wednesday with a flyover that took place over Kiel's Veterans Park and all of Kiel's Schools. Coordinated by Lt. Cmdr. Ron Roen, US Navy retired, the flyover offered the community an opportunity to remember all who have served. Special credit for the music used in the background of this video goes to the Kiel Municipal Band, who annually honors veterans with their "Armed Forces Salute."
As the Coast Guard HH65 helicopter made several passes over Veterans Park, members of Ssgt. Amy Krueger's family were present to honor her memory. She was killed in the terrorist attack on Fort Hood, TX one year ago.
Roen assisted Amy's mother, Jeri Krueger in being able to talk with the crew aboard the helicopter to thank them for their tribute.
Locally, the event was coordinated by Mayor Robert Werdeo, Jr. a retired veteran of the US Army. The Kiel Area Association of Commerce provided financial support to make Lt. Cmdr. Roen's time in Kiel possible.
