Downtown Kiel was humming with activity throughout the day Saturday as the 24th annual Kiel Ice Sculpting competition unfolded on Fremont Street and outlying business districts.
Mild temperatures brought out the best turnout for carving teams in recent years, and a throng of interested spectators.
Cars and pedestrians alike streamed along the main thoroughfare all afternoon.

THE RESULTS ARE IN!!!!

In the adult division, first place went to Schoenborn's Jewelry, with a sculpture of a hawk on a telephone pole. Second place went to Country Visions for their carving of a boy fishing. Dr. Barbara Karls Dental took third with their lighthouse.
Honorable mentions were granted to Trails End for their gnome, Kiel Vet Clinic for the dog and wagon, Header in for its toilet and Alice's Stress Management for a twin engine.
In the High School Division, first place went to First Merit Bank for its moose. Second went to Mannenbach Mechanical for its carving tribute to the late Nick Schad, third went to LTC/the Kiel High School Art Club for its minion sculpture. Honorable Mentions to the High School Science Club sponsored by MC's Pub and Grill with it's Rubik's Cube and Muermann Engineering #2 for it's Lego man.
In the Youth Division, first place was captured by Stoelting, with an ice cream cone. American Family Insurance took second with its Planter's Peanut sculpture.
First timers were successful as well. The first place sculpture was done by the Kiel Fire Department, a replica of the steamer. Second place went to the piggy bank done by Collin's State Bank. Third place went to Farmer's Insurance for its snowman.
The Kiel Ice Sculpture Contest is sponsored annually by the Kiel Area Association of Commerce. This year's event was chaired by Jeff McCarey, with assistance from Sue Bonnett.
