Q: Should I be using different hair and skin products with winter coming?
A: With cold air and furnace heat arriving, hair and skin will begin to get dry. You may need to switch both your products to ones that contain richer moisturizers than you need in the fairer weather. Also, use warm water for cleansing hair and body, rather than hot. Moisturize skin daily.
Q: How do I revive my hair after a summer of sun and water?
A: A good start is a deep penetrating conditioning treatment to repair any damage done. Look for one with a balance of protein and moisturizers. Follow directions. This may be needed once a week until hair is back to feeling better. Having the ends trimmed will get rid of brittleness.
Q: What are the benefits of hair conditioner and do I need to use it?
A: Fine hair lacks protein, coarse hair lacks moisture. Using the right conditioner on your hair is important or you will be disappointed with the results. Conditioners close the cuticle of the hair. Without it, you can experience flyaway hair, roughness, and breakage. By using a small amount, many can be left right in the hair. See which way work’s best!
Q: Why is my hair getting thin, especially on top?
A: As we age, our hormone levels change, in men and women both. This is one of the causes. If thinning seems premature, it can be lack of proper nutrition, lacking in certain vitamins or just plain genetics. There are some disorders that increase hair loss. Check with your doctor. There are products and style changes that can camouflage this.
Q: How does swimming pool water affect the hair?
A: Hair absorbs pool chemicals easily. Immediately after swimming, wash hair with swimmers shampoo and close the cuticle of the hair with swimmers conditioner. Once the chemicals dry into hair they’re difficult to remove. Buildup causes hair to look damaged and feel like fiberglass. A few minutes extra after swimming is well worth it to maintain beautiful, healthy hair.
